Accelerate Healing.
Reduce Inflammation.
Summus Medical Laser offers high-power Class IV lasers (up to 60W) that provide non-invasive, drug-free, and pain-free treatment to accelerate healing and reduce inflammation.
Utilizing red and near-infrared wavelengths, these devices penetrate deep into the tissue to treat chronic pain, sports injuries, and post-surgical recovery, often within 5-15 minute sessions.
TREAT A VARIETY OF CONDITIONS
- Pain & Inflammation including joint pain (knees, shoulders, hips), muscle strains and sprains, tendonitis, bursitis, Arthritis-related pain, and nerve pain (neuropathy)
- Soft Tissue & Wound Healing including cuts, ulcers, burns, and surgical wounds, post-surgical recovery, tendon and ligament injuries, sports injuries and soft tissue repaid.
- Vascular and Circulatory including poor circulation-related issues, edema or swelling, stimulating blood flow for healing

Problems & Solutions
Peripheral Neuropathy
What is Peripheral Neuropathy?
Peripheral: Located in the arms and hands or legs and feet
Neuropathy: nerve pathology or damage
*Not a disease itself, but a condition resulting from other disease processes.
Cause of Peripheral Neuropathy
- Diabetes
- Chemotherapy
- Medications
- Alcoholism
- Chemical exposure (Agent Orange)
- Disc bulge/herniation
- Idiopathic (unknown)
Peripheral Neuropathy Risk Factors
- Poor glycemic control
- Alcoholism
- Disc Herniation
- Hypertension
- Hypertriglyceridemia
- Obesity
- Older age
- Longer duration of diabetes
Types of nerve fibers
- Sensory nerves – used for sensation
- hot
- cold
- sharp
- dull
- pain
- Motor nerves – used for muscle control
Diabetic Neuropathy
- Affects the small blood vessels that wrap around nerves
- Poor blood supply – poor nutrition to the nerves – poor nerve function
Peripheral Neuropathy
- Numbness
- Burning in feet/hands
- Cramping
- Sharp electric pain
- Pain when walking
- Heavy legs
- Difficulty sleeping from leg discomfort
- Prickling/tingling
- Weakness
- Swelling
- Loss of balance or falling
Neuropathy Medications
Medications do not address the cause of neuropathy — they mask the symptom.
Neuropathy medications include Lyrica, Neurotin, Gabapentin, Opioid painkillers-Oxycodone-Tramadol.
These medications come with warnings about safety/risks and could cause addiction problems.

Class IV Laser Therapy for Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral
Neuropathy
“data indicates that photobiomodulation is an effective, low toxicity treatment for CIPN. Nearly 90% of patients experience significant improvement in mTNS scores that begins within weeks of initiating therapy.”
Peter A Argenta, MD, Karlas V BallmanPhD, Melissa A Geller,MD. The effect of photobiomodulation on chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy: A randomized, sham-controled clincal trial. Gynecologic Oncology 144(2017) 159-166.
Class IV Laser Therapy for Diabetic Neuropathy
Class 4 laser therapy significantly reduced pain and improved the overall quality of life of older adults with painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
Given the noninvasive nature of the intervention, its high compliance rate, and its safety profile (i.e., no known adverse or side effects), deep tissue laser therapy should be considered a safe, nonpharmacological addition to the standard of care for the management of pain in older adults with painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
